See Barcelona By Bike: Culture And Sport On Two Wheels

Nowadays, the bike is not just the greenest way of getting around; it also gives you total freedom to discover the city.

Cycling is popular in Barcelona all year round and it’s one of the best ways to see the city whether you choose to go with friends, family or by yourself.

Beach Circuit
One of the Catalan capital’s main attractions is undoubtedly the sea. The route we suggest sets off from Plaça Colom and finishes at the Fòrum, following the bike lanes that run along Moll de la Fusta and through Barceloneta. From there take Passeig de la Vila Olímpica till you get to the Fòrum. To get back you can take the route along Avinguda Meridiana till you arrive back at the beach in Barceloneta.

City Circuit
There are lots of circuits for discovering the city, but the best one takes you from the beach to Plaça Catalunya, up Passeig de Gràcia past Gaudí’s La Pedrera and Casa Batlló and then through the Eixample to the Sagrada Família. Finding out about a part of Barcelona’s history on two wheels is the perfect combination of sport and culture.

Mountain and River Circuit
For those who prefer the mountain we recommend Collserola or Tibidabo where there are lots of routes to choose from, the easiest and most popular being the one that runs along Carretera de les Aigües As well as offering spectacular views of the city, it is suitable for all levels. The best way to get there is from Avinguda Tibidabo. Another way is to put your bike on the FGC train (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat) at any of the stations in the outbound direction (you can use the same ticket as you use for the metro), get off at the Peu del Funicular station and from there you can take the cable car up to the Carretera de les Aigües station. For the river circuit, the River Besòs is the best route as it is around 10 km long. There is an asphalted cycle lane in both directions for 5 km running alongside the grass verge next to the river. You can easily get there from the Fòrum if you take the bike lane in Carrer Taulat.
