If you feel the need to escape the hustle and bustle of life in the city of Barcelona and are looking for a totally relaxing way to spend the day, we recommend a visit to any of the lakes near the Catalan capital; without a doubt the most peaceful alternative to the routine of the city. Here are our three recommendations:
Foradada de Cantonigròs
This is a small lake surrounded by rock with an opening, through which the sunlight beams at certain times of day. It also has a 15 metre waterfall next to which are the ruins of an old mill that was built here especially to take advantage of the fall. It isn’t a very large spot, and tends to get crowded during peak season. However, the rest of the year it is practically deserted, so it is a place not to be missed if you want to enjoy a day of sun and water. We recommend visiting it during wetter times of the year.
Llacuna de l’Aguait de Cal Tet Lagoon
The Lagoon of Aguait de Cal Tet is a beautiful saltwater lake just outside Barcelona in Prat del Llobregat. Although bathing in the lake is not recommended, there is a range of activities you can do here, such as camping, enjoying a picnic, walking around it or doing a spot of bird watching of the many varieties of birds that live here in their natural habitat.
Parc de la Ciutadella Lake
Abundant hundred-year old trees, a monumental waterfall, buildings dating back from the 19th century that have been restored and converted into museums, boat rides and an open air museum of sculptures are some of the things on offer near the Lake of the Parc de la Ciutadella.
