On Wednesday 14 December Hotel La Casa del Sol opens its doors at 23 Plaza del Sol in the heart of the Gracia neighbourhood in Barcelona.
With high quality finishes, the hotel has 18 comfortable rooms, some of which overlook the Plaza del Sol while others have views of the vertical garden in the hotel entrance. All the rooms have plenty of natural light and are completely soundproofed.
Among the most notable services that guests can enjoy at Hotel La Casa del Sol are the La Mesa del Sol restaurant (ground floor), the combined tea room and finger food corner (ground floor), the bar service (lobby and terrace) and a beautiful outdoor pool with sunbeds on the rooftop.
This new boutique hotel in the Gracia neighbourhood is located in a fantastic building formerly known as La Casa de los Barcos (the Boat House). Built in 1854 for Juan Martí Alsina, a prosperous trader and former seafarer, the name of this emblematic building comes from the fresh murals depicting the brigantines on which the owner had sailed the high seas to South America in his youth. The house remained in the family for many years after Alsina’s death in 1909, but La Casa de los Barcos suffered the penalties of urban growth and the consequent pressure for real estate with the disappearance of its beautiful garden. The property fell into neglect until 2014, when it was purchased for renovation into a hotel.
In December 2016 the seafarer’s home has completed its transformation into Hotel La Casa del Sol, but it maintains the original architecture in the façades and seeks to evoke the spirit of the original house in the vertical garden.
